Did I mention the Renegades performed well? How about first place and best condition!
I recently purchased a set of 4 “Renegade strap-ons” for my OTTB, Tortuguero. His hoof dimensions are a little different (all 4 roughly 4-5/8″ wide by 4-1/2″ long) but thanks to Kirt and Gina Lander’s expertise, they cutback the sole base a bit on the size 1 boots and installed size 0 cables on his hinds. This “customization” is working very well for us.
I chose the Redwood I ride July 25th for the first competition test of Tortuguero’s new Renegade strap-ons. This was my first ride ever on the California coast and what a wonderful place to ride! It was a welcome relief from the 100 degree heat that’s been the norm at home as the high was 70 degrees or so with overnight lows of about 50. The ride was in the Redwood National Park, put on by the Redwood Empire Endurance Riders Club (http://www.redwoodendurance.org/rides.html). This is old growth giant redwoods with lush ferns bordering the trails. I’ve never seen such nice manicured trails! It was so much fun to ride in perfect weather on a single track trail “freeway” through what looked like the Jurassic Park movie set. I can’t wait to go back and I won’t have to wait long as they are hosting another ride August 22 at the same location- Orick, CA rodeo grounds about 45 minutes north of Eureka, CA.
Did I mention the boots performed well? Tortuguero and I finished first and were awarded Best Condition! He was wearing the Gold Colored strap-ons and after I installed them just prior to the ride start I never touched them until removing them when I got Tortuguero back to our trailer. Thanks for the flawless boot performance as they stayed on, no twists, no rubs, and my horse moved comfortably. We rode in a group of 5 horses for most of the ride and while they were cantering where trail permitted we stayed predominantly in an extended trot. I’m estastic that booting is allowing my horse to return to soundness and a high level of performance as he has had Navicular symptoms and “mild” Navicular bone remodeling verified with X-rays.
